Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I started BEATZ Zine as part of my undergraduate publication project at Emily Carr University. I’m a first-generation immigrant who grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh and moved to Vancouver, BC at the age of 16 with my parents and younger sister.
I’ve been fortunate to have incredible mentors and educators who taught me about systemic injustice and anti-oppression. I believe deeply in the power of stories—and that art, music, and writing are transformative tools for expression and healing.
BEATZ was created with the support of my mentors and immigrant and refugee youth. It’s a platform for sharing experiences and building community. I personally hope to keep learning and amplifying voices through BEATZ Zine—and if you’ve found yourself here, I hope it sparks self-reflection and encourages you to explore your own stories and experiences.
BEATZ Zine is located on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples of British Columbia, Canada.
